In the early 1990s the processes at financial institutions became more and more ripe with potential for development and improvement. KEBA used its years of intensive know-how to present its first recycling ideas back at the CeBIT 1992.
Even back then KEBA recognised that it was not just the relocation of standard business transactions to the self-service zones, but rather the closing of the cash cycle within the ATMs that offered the greatest potential. The European market at that time remained cool to the idea of recycling. Once the first self-service deposit machines was installed two years later, KEBA then implemented the first bundled-cash deposit systems on the market in 1997.
The green light for ATM recycling in Europe came in 2002 from the Governing Council of the European Central bank. KEBA's combined deposit and withdrawal ATM was the first device to receive recycling approval from the German Federal Bank, starting its successful run of adoptions at financial institutions in Austria and Germany. The path had been cleared for this new, innovative technology; in 2001 that path made the jump to Asia, where the first systems were delivered.
KEBA can now draw on the enormous wealth of experience that it has gathered over the course of 16 years in this field. This is based primarily on collaboration and intensive partnership with Hitachi, whose module is currently the number 1 in the area of secure banknote validation on the world market (over 30,000 operational installations). Since 1994 KEBA has been cooperating with Hitachi in matters related to recycling and is the European partner of the technology leader for self-service recycling modules. Together with its partners, KEBA was also back then the company that introduced the cassette technology to the European market; it has since become the industry standard.
KEBA and its ATMs are currently in the third generation of cassette-based cash cycle technology. True competency, years of experience and real technological know-how in all matters related to recycling make KEBA the market leader in Germany and Austria. KePlus, the newest product generation, makes bank transactions even more economical in the self-service area and is poised to continue KEBA's dominance in the field.
