How do I know at which point the angle is being measured?
For a correct measurement, the laser beam must hit both legs of the workpiece at a 90° angle. These points are visible as intense laser dots on the bent sheet metal workpiece during the measuring process and are referred to as measuring fields These allow the user to identify the exact point of measurement during the measurement process and, if necessary, change the position of the device.

Why are no measuring fields visible?
This may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The reflective properties of the material do not permit a measurement.
- The environment is too brightly lit.
- One or both measuring fields are outside the measurable range, for example due to short sheet legs.

Which sheet metals can be measured with KeMes?
KeMes was designed for reflective metals without mechanical surface treatments.
These include
- metal sheets e.g. aluminum, steel and stainless steel (cold-rolled or descaled)
- Galvanized sheets
- Sheets with protective film

For workpieces with holes or recesses, make sure that the measuring fields are located in an area with a flat measurable surface (i.e. not in a recess).

What is the minimum leg length?
The vertical alignment of the measurement device influences which leg length can be measured. This length increases as the distance between the measurement device and the bending edge increases. Note: the measuring principle requires the laser beam to strike the sheet metal legs at an angle of 90°.
If the beam shines beyond one of the legs, the distance from the measurement device to the bending edge must be reduced.
An exact measurement requires a minimum distance of 20 mm between the device and the surface of the object to be measured.

What does a flashing reading or a display with only one decimal place mean?
If the displayed angle flashes, or if only one decimal place is shown on the display, there are not enough measurement points available to determine the angle, and the displayed result could be incorrect.
Check the position of the measuring fields.

Why does the device turn itself off?
The device turns itself off automatically when the battery level is low in order to prevent a deep discharge of the battery.

How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
If the battery is completely discharged, it takes approx. 2 hours to fully recharge.

How long can KeMes be used on one battery charge?
The length of operation depends on many factors, including the operating mode, how often and for how long the display is active, and the age of the battery.
Approx. 2000 measurements can be made with a new, fully charged battery. This value decreases as the battery ages.

How do I set the time?
The time can be set in the Settings menu item.

What do I do if an error code appears?
If an error code (e.g. Err 1/1 00014 0x00000000) appears on the display, the error can be acknowledged by briefly pressing the operation button.
The message "No more errors!" will be displayed. Pressing the operation button returns the device to the main menu and it can continue to be used. If the error occurs again, restarting the device is recommended.
Attention:
If the error keeps occurring or if the error cannot be acknowledged, the device must be sent to the service partner for inspection or repair.
What must be taken into account when mounting the measurement device on the upper die?
- Using KeMes requires a spacing of at least 6 mm between the upper dies to allow the laser beam to pass unimpeded through the resulting gap. This gap can be created by moving the die segments. The centering mark on the measuring device helps the user when aligning with the gap between the upper dies.
- The unit must be aligned horizontally and positioned so that the laser beam can strike both sheet legs at a 90° angle.
The device can be set to continuous measurement mode for correct positioning. The laser is then permanently active and a pre-bent workpiece can be used to check whether the measuring fields lie on the sheet metal legs or whether the device must be moved on the upper die.

How can bending marks be avoided?
The necessary gap in the upper dies results in bending marks on the workpiece. These can be avoided by using special tools with milled slots or horn tools.
The metal legs of the workpieces are relatively short. Can I still use the angle measurement device?
If the application and the die allow it, the upper tool can be rotated by 180°. The measurement device can be positioned further down – reducing the measurable leg length.
A measurement can be made if the laser beam now hits both legs at a 90° angle.
Can KeMes be used with heavily offset tools?
If the legs are sufficiently long and the upper die offers sufficient surface area for the device, measurement is also possible with strongly offset tools (see image).
What influence does decompression have on machine measurement?
With short leg lengths – especially in connection with surfaces that are difficult to measure – it may be the case that too few individual values can be measured because the bending beam moves too quickly after the bending process. In this case, the angle displayed may be too small.
Increasing the decompression stroke at the press brake gives the measurement device more time for a sufficient number of individual measurements. The correct end angle can now be measured.

The displayed angle may be too small because not enough individual values could be measured.
A correct measurement can be achieved by increasing the decompression stroke using the machine controls.
