What is KeBob?
KeBob is a digital, AI-based assistance system designed to enhance safety and well-being in self-service areas, particularly in bank and savings bank foyers or post office branches.
How does KeBob work?
At the core of KeBob is a pre-trained and continuously optimized artificial intelligence (AI) developed by KEBA. It recognizes, evaluates, and responds to situations locally and in real time. KeBob uses AI to understand human behavior in the foyer and derive appropriate actions.
How does KeBob differ from conventional security systems?
KeBob is more than just an AI surveillance camera – it is the first smart, AI-powered assistant specifically tailored to banking processes in foyers. It recognizes what is happening in the branch, can respond in real time, and interact with people. Its active, friendly physical presence in the branch increases acceptance and enhances the sense of security. This unique combination improves customer well-being and makes self-service banking a safer and more pleasant experience.
When is KeBob used and how can it help me?
To prevent misuse of the foyer:
KeBob detects individuals who linger in the foyer for extended periods and asks them to leave. By recognizing how long someone stays, it can prevent misuse of the space – e.g. by partygoers or overnight guests. If individuals do not comply, security personnel can be informed.
To improve the customer experience and support employees:
KeBob monitors privacy compliance by, for example, asking people to keep their distance or remove helmets. With direct communication on-site, KeBob de-escalates tense situations. This contributes significantly to the well-being of customers and employees. Additionally, customers feel reassured knowing that KeBob will automatically call for help in the event of a medical emergency.
Where can KeBob be used?
The KeBob system is designed for indoor use. Typical applications include (semi-) public self-service areas, such as bank foyers, post offices, indoor parcel stations, and self-service shops. In general, KeBob can be used anywhere that safety and personal well-being need to be improved in a targeted manner.
What benefits can KeBob provide?
-
Early threat detection: KeBob can significantly reduce the risk of ATM attacks by detecting threats early in combination with other security features.
-
Reduced false alarms and patrols: It ensures that no one is present before activating alarm systems, which avoids costly false alarms and reduces the need for routine security patrols.
-
Prevention of vandalism and misuse: Its visible presence and proactive communication discourage misbehavior.
-
Improved well-being and security perception: Both employees and customers feel safer and more comfortable.
-
Brand customization: KeBob can be tailored to a customer’s corporate identity, serving as a modern brand ambassador.
-
Future-proof design: KeBob continuously adapts to new threat scenarios.
How does KeBob support bank branch staff?
KeBob relieves on-site staff by automatically handling uncomfortable or conflict-prone tasks, such as asking customers to follow rules – like removing helmets or keeping distance.
It also supports security personnel by autonomously performing control tasks such as locking the branch outside of business hours. This automation significantly reduces the need for on-site security interventions, saving both time and operational costs.
How does KeBob improve the customer experience?
KeBob helps customers feel safer and more comfortable – especially in situations that may seem unpleasant or unsafe, such as late at night or in the presence of unfamiliar individuals. Its visible presence signals alertness and protection. This feeling of "someone is watching out for me" strengthens the sense of safety and contributes to a more positive perception of the self-service area.

What door systems can be controlled by KeBob?
KeBob provides one or more potential-free outputs. Door control systems must support corresponding inputs (e.g., door open/close).
Can doors be locked without an emergency override?
No. Fully locking doors without an emergency override is currently not permitted.
Even though KeBob provides a high level of security, responsibility cannot lie with the system alone. Operators are legally required to ensure that no persons are left inside when emergency exits are locked – a task currently only permissible via human supervision. Whether KeBob will receive approval for this in the future remains open. Until then, an emergency override must always be provided.
How can misuse of the foyer be reduced?
KeBob significantly reduces misuse of the foyer through its visible and active presence. People misusing the area – for example, for sleeping or partying – notice the system, which directly addresses them and requests they leave. Because it is not immediately obvious how the system works, the interaction is typically de-escalating, prompting voluntary exit.
If there’s no response, security personnel can be alerted automatically.
KeBob also detects lying individuals – whether due to a medical emergency or overnight stay. If there’s no reaction to KeBob’s prompt, medical or security personnel can be notified.
Additionally, KeBob monitors how long a person stays in the foyer. After a defined time, a prompt is issued to prevent misuse at an early stage.
How can the customer experience be improved?
KeBob’s physical presence gives customers the feeling that they are not alone – especially in situations that may be perceived as uncomfortable or unsafe, such as in the evening or when encountering unexpected company in the foyer. KeBob signals awareness and protection, significantly strengthening the subjective sense of security and thereby contributing to an increased sense of well-being.
How can employees be supported?
KeBob relieves bank employees by taking over uncomfortable or potentially conflict-prone tasks – such as asking customers to maintain the required distance or to remove a helmet. These direct interventions are performed automatically by KeBob, allowing staff to focus on other responsibilities.
Security personnel also benefit: tasks like locking the branch can be carried out autonomously, eliminating the need for regular patrols.
Additionally, KeBob helps reduce the number of false alarms, which in turn significantly lowers the number of security interventions required.
How are false alarms reduced?
KeBob can minimize the need for security personnel by ensuring that no individuals remain in the building before the alarm system is activated. It prompts individuals to leave the foyer, thereby significantly reducing costly false alarms. Routine checks by security staff can be reduced or eliminated entirely.
Can KeBob replace a human advisor?
No – KeBob supports human advisors but does not replace them.
What types of tasks can KeBob automate?
KeBob can independently perform a variety of tasks. These include:
-
Automatically locking the foyer at predefined times
-
Activating an alarm system
These automated processes not only increase security but also ease the burden on staff in day-to-day operations.
How can KeBob respond to detected events?
KeBob reacts to detected events in real time and can automatically trigger a variety of measures. These include:
-
Playing predefined announcements in different languages based on the situation
-
Triggering alarms via the connected alarm notification system (integration to be coordinated with the customer’s security staff)
-
Automatically locking or unlocking doors
-
Activating additional security equipment, such as:
o Alarm sirens
o Strobe lights
o Fog systems
o Roller shutters
Which response occurs in which situation can be tailored to the needs of each specific bank branch and reconfigured as needed via the KeBob Cockpit.

Is access to the Management Platform required to trigger an alarm?
No, access to the KEBA Management Platform is not required to trigger an alarm.
If the security service is connected via the foyer’s alarm system, KeBob can be directly integrated. In a defined event – e.g., when a person is lying on the floor – an alarm can be triggered via a dedicated contact. This is a simple technical trigger without transmission of additional data such as event descriptions or images. An internet connection is not required for this.
Alternatively or additionally, KeBob can send internet-based notifications to predefined recipients – e.g., the security service, support personnel, or bank security officers – via email, SMS, or messenger services.
Through which channels can messages be sent?
KeBob currently supports several channels for automatic notifications when defined events occur:
-
Email: Includes event description and image
-
SMS: Includes event description (no image)
-
Messenger messages via Microsoft Teams or Slack: Includes event description and image
Can existing cameras be used with the new KeBob solution?
To determine if existing cameras can be used, two key factors must be assessed during the project planning phase:
-
Technical compatibility: Do the existing cameras meet the requirements for AI image processing? Important criteria include field of view, focal length, minimum resolution, and supported video transmission format.
-
Network connectivity: From a security standpoint, is access to the network where the cameras operate permitted? Integration is only possible if explicit approval has been granted.
Only if both conditions are met can the existing cameras be used with the KeBob system.
Can KeBob cameras be used simultaneously with an existing video system?
Yes, using KeBob cameras in parallel with an existing video surveillance system is technically possible but must be individually assessed during project planning. Two key aspects must be considered:
-
Camera positioning and field of view: Do the KeBob camera placements meet the requirements of the existing video system? In most cases, this is not an issue, since KeBob typically uses higher-quality cameras than many existing surveillance systems.
-
Network integration: Is it technically and legally permissible for the video server to access the KeBob network? This must be coordinated with the customer's IT and security departments in advance.
Only if both prerequisites are fulfilled is parallel usage advisable.
Can I use 360-degree cameras with KeBob?
Using 360-degree cameras is possible in principle, but certain limitations apply. Due to the strong image distortion (fisheye effect), these cameras may cause problems for some AI functions – such as distance detection or identifying lying persons.
Can KeBob replace a video system?
Technically, the video streams from the connected cameras can be recorded directly on the KeBob server PC. However, depending on the data volume, additional storage capacity may be required. This solution is particularly suitable for small self-service branches with a limited number of cameras, where simple video recording for a defined retention period (e.g., 14 days) is sufficient.
Important prerequisites:
-
Quality requirements and retention period: Define what image quality is needed and how long recordings should be stored.
-
Data protection: Since individuals are not anonymized in recorded video, the existing data protection agreement must be amended accordingly.
Is the KeBob system certified under UVV-Kassen (accident prevention regulations for cash desks)?
No, KeBob currently does not have UVV-Kassen certification. This certification is mandatory in Germany for workplaces with cashier functions. At present, there are no plans to replace existing video surveillance systems in bank branches where UVV-relevant cashier workplaces are still in operation.
Is additional software required to operate KeBob?
No, access to the KEBA Management Platform only requires a standard web browser.
What happens if the KeBob Guard is disabled or destroyed?
If the KeBob Guard is taken out of service – for example, due to damage – the system automatically sends a corresponding warning to the designated recipients.
The central monitoring function remains fully operational because it runs independently of the Guard on the back-office server PC. All security-relevant functions such as alarm triggering and control of devices (e.g., doors, fog systems) remain active.
Only the direct customer interaction via the KeBob Guard on-site will no longer be possible in this case.
How can the KeBob system configuration be changed?
Configuration changes can be made centrally via the KeBob Cockpit. Only a user account with the appropriate access rights is required.
Configuration is browser-based and can therefore be carried out flexibly from any authorized device – such as a PC, tablet, or smartphone.
How and when do I receive software updates for the KeBob system?
Software updates are automatically distributed by KEBA via the KEBA Management Platform. Installation happens in the background without disrupting ongoing operation.
Active customer approval is generally not required – updates are provided and applied in accordance with the maintenance terms of the service agreement.
Is remote access to the KeBob system possible?
Yes, remote access is possible. With the explicit consent of the customer, KEBA can access the system remotely via the KEBA Management Platform.
Must the KEBA Management Platform always be available?
No, the KEBA Management Platform does not have to be permanently available for local system operation. If the platform is temporarily unreachable, all local KeBob functions remain active – including event detection, alarm triggering via the alarm system, and the control of security devices. Only the sending of internet-based notifications (e.g., via email, SMS, or messenger services) is not possible during such an outage.
Is KeBob authorized to automatically lock doors when no one is left in the foyer – even without an emergency button?
No, KeBob is currently not authorized to completely lock doors without an emergency override. Even though KeBob offers a high level of security, operators are still legally obligated to ensure that no people remain in the building when locking emergency exits. This responsibility cannot currently be transferred to an AI system.
Note on norms and standards:
For doors in escape and rescue routes, the following safety standards apply:
-
DIN EN 179 (emergency exit hardware for persons familiar with the exit)
-
DIN EN 1125 (panic exit devices for public areas)
Before using automatic locking mechanisms, coordination with the responsible fire safety officers, security personnel, and possibly the local fire department is advised.
