Der neue evo Cash Recycler von KEBA
At KEBA, we pursue a clear mission: developing products and solutions that make people’s everyday lives and work easier. And this easy-to-use philosophy truly applies to everyone - regardless of age, physical limitations, or technical experience. That is why ease of use, alongside quality, performance, and security, is a core pillar of our product development process. Whether it is a cash recycler, parcel locker, or handover system, Design for All is not an afterthought or a feature added later. It is an essential part of every single KEBA product.

Banking: Guiding users step by step through the process

Bank customers are diverse - and so are their needs. This is exactly where our operating concept comes in.

With KEBA cash recyclers, only the element currently required for the next step lights up. If a customer wants to deposit cash, the card reader and NFC area illuminate first. After authentication, the screen guides the user to enter their PIN, followed by the illuminated cash deposit compartment opening. In this way, users are guided step by step through the entire process.

This process-oriented lighting concept with large illuminated areas is especially helpful for people with visual impairments. For wheelchair users, we offer accessible variants with sufficient knee clearance, ensuring that all operating elements remain easy to reach and clearly visible from a seated position.

Our easy-to-use concept also benefits service technicians: inside the cash recycling system, all serviceable and replaceable components are clearly marked in green. This enables fast maintenance and repairs while minimizing downtime.

Our approach: the persona method

To develop products that can truly be used by everyone, we need to understand the needs of a wide variety of users. That is why KEBA relies on the persona method: during the development phase, we identify different user types and actively incorporate their requirements into the design process.

A practical example: an elderly man experiencing the early stages of arthritis who struggles to insert his card into an ATM slot. Or an older woman with cataracts who has difficulty reading small text and cannot immediately recognize where to insert her card or retrieve her cash. Scenarios like these directly influence our development work and ensure that our products are accessible and intuitive to use right from the start.

Logistics Automation: parcel lockers everyone can use

Parcel lockers operate around the clock and are used by a wide range of people. That makes intuitive usability all the more important.

The terminal user interface is intentionally designed to be clean and easy to navigate, guiding users intuitively through the pickup or shipping process. Large, easy-to-read fonts and clear instructions ensure that even less tech-savvy users can operate the system with ease.

Technically, we go one step further: users with limited mobility can register with parcel service providers and request that their parcels be stored in a dedicated “comfort zone” located in the lower section of the locker system. This allows them to retrieve their shipments conveniently and independently.

Accessible placement is equally important to us. The area in front of the parcel locker must provide sufficient maneuvering space for wheelchair users, parents with strollers, as well as elderly and frail individuals. We therefore provide detailed guidance to parcel locker operators, because usability and accessibility do not end with the locker itself - they also include the surrounding environment.

Secure handover solutions for every use case

KEBA’s KeMas handover systems are used across a wide variety of industries - from key management in car dealerships and tool distribution in manufacturing facilities to automated textile logistics in hospitals.

As different as these applications may be, they all share one common requirement: the systems must be easy and safe for everyone to use.

That is why KEBA’s KeMas solutions are also designed with intuitive usability in mind. The user interfaces are clearly structured and guide users through every process step. Whether retrieving, returning, or reserving items, the workflows are self-explanatory and require minimal training.

Modern technologies such as RFID additionally enable the clear assignment of items to individuals without the need for complicated manual input. As a result, the solutions are not only easy to operate but also help improve operational efficiency.

Intuitive usability is more than just a nice extra - it is a decisive success factor for every self-service solution.

To ensure that our products can be used easily and intuitively by everyone, we conduct regular usability tests. We place particular emphasis on accessibility and inclusion.

Simplicity as a success factor

Intuitive usability is far more than just a nice extra. It is a critical success factor for every self-service solution. After all, systems can only reach their full potential when they can be used by as many people as possible.

At KEBA, we see accessibility and ease of use as an integral part of our development process - from the very first idea to the finished product. This is how we create solutions that make life easier. For everyone.
