Make the most of low electricity prices throughout the day

Charge at lower cost with Spot Price Charging

Electricity prices change hourly – and this can be used to your advantage. With Spot Price Charging, your EV automatically charges when electricity is at its cheapest. The feature in the KEBA eMobility Portal and the KEBA eMobility App combines dynamic electricity tariffs with smart control, making cost-efficient, convenient and sustainable charging simple.

Dynamic electricity tariffs: The basis for Spot Price Charging

Electricity from renewable sources offers significant savings potential

Electricity prices are traded on the power exchange in real time. In addition to long-term futures markets, there are so-called spot markets, where electricity is bought and sold at short notice.

As the share of renewable energy has grown significantly, the weather now plays a key role: when solar and wind power generate abundant energy, prices drop considerably – sometimes even below the producers’ generation costs.

A dynamic electricity tariff makes it possible to actively benefit from these fluctuations by drawing electricity when prices are at their lowest. This is particularly advantageous for EVs, as their energy demand is high and charging times are flexible. This is exactly where Spot Price Charging comes in.

Thanks to your EV: How to significantly reduce your monthly electricity costs

Take advantage of low prices for your biggest energy consumer

In most households, the EV is the largest electricity consumer – often exceeding the combined usage of all other appliances. An electric car requires around 3,000 kWh per year, which corresponds to approximately 15,000 kilometres driven. At an average electricity price of € 0.30 per kWh, this results in annual charging costs of around € 900.

However, those who primarily charge during low-price periods can reduce their charging costs by up to 50%, saving around € 450 per year.

The actual savings depend on individual flexibility: For example, anyone working from home during the day and charging their vehicle in sunny conditions benefits particularly strongly, as photovoltaic power fed into the grid can significantly lower prices during those hours.

Spot Price Charging at KEBA: simple and efficient

Compatible with all flexible electricity tariffs

KEBA has developed Spot Price Charging to be particularly convenient and practical to use. The feature can be activated directly in the KEBA eMobility Portal as soon as a wallbox has been registered.

The system automatically takes current market prices into account and intelligently adjusts the charging process. Basic preferences and limits can be defined individually, such as the preferred price range or specific time windows for charging. This creates an optimal balance between reliability and cost efficiency – without the need for daily adjustments.
