What is THG trading?
Companies that supply fossil fuels, such as oil companies, often do not meet the required CO₂ reduction quotas. To avoid fines, they buy “clean” shares of the total energy consumption – usually from battery-electric vehicle users and their charging infrastructure. This is referred to as THG quota trading.
Sign up by the end of the year and secure your cashback with a certified charger
Even as the year comes to a close, it’s not too late to turn the kilowatt-hours used for charging into money. It’s very simple: just register by the end of the year with a THG broker, such as the Austrian company CleanFuture, and report the number of kilowatt-hours charged. You will be paid a set amount per kWh. With CleanFuture, this is currently at least 6,3 cents per kWh, potentially even more.
A certified charging station is required to receive the THG incentive. Your charger must be MID-compliant or meet the requirements of German measurement and calibration law.
Easily submit kilowatt-hours and finance your charging station
A small example: with an annual mileage of 15,000 km, about 3,000 kWh are charged. If most charging takes place at your own charger, CleanFuture will pay 3,000 x €0.063, i.e., €189. After a one-time registration, you can earn money every year with just a few clicks: simply download the annual report from the KEBA eMobility portal and submit it to the broker – done! With this bonus, the charging station pays for itself in no time.
Don’t have your own wallbox yet?
If you’re new to e-mobility or haven’t been able to charge at home before, it’s worth getting a charging station with a certified energy meter. Thanks to the THG bonus in Austria, even private users can benefit financially. Ideal models are the KEBA KeContact P40 and P40 Pro, as well as the KeContact P40 company car wallbox. These models charge at up to 22 kW, can be controlled via an app, and allow PV surplus charging.
Your charging station does not have a certified meter?
Even if you already use your own wallbox, it can be worthwhile to replace it with a charging station with a certified energy meter. This component is required to receive the THG incentive and allows you to collect this bonus every year. Plus, with such a charger, you can easily bill charging electricity, for example, to tenants.
Do you already have a MID/ME-compliant wallbox?
Congratulations! You can now earn money for every kilowatt-hour you charge into your EV – whether from the grid or your own PV system. This way, you recover your investment in your charging infrastructure. All you need to do is register with a THG broker such as CleanFuture. After the one-time registration, simply report the total number of kilowatt-hours each year. With KEBA chargers, it’s a breeze – the charging reports can be easily downloaded.
